Copy Tip of the Week
Use reverse psychology in your headlines and flip expectations.
It’s counterintuitive and challenges the reader to reconsider their views, piquing curiosity and increasing engagement.
Here are some examples:
"Don't Read This If You Want to Stay in Your Comfort Zone."
"Ignore This You Hate Major Savings."
"Avoid This Article."
"Don't Click Here Unless You're Ready to Change Your Life."
"Don't Use These Tips Unless You Want to Increase Your Followers."
"Ignore This Advice If You Love Being Overwhelmed."

Why I recommend it: Preview text is like your subject line's best friend. It can offer additional support for the content in the subject line, promote some degree of personalization, act as a convenient place for an A/B test, and more! This is a great in-depth article on all things "Email Preview Text."
The 35 Headline Formulas of John Caples (via Lars Lofgren)
Why I recommend it: We're taking an intentional look at developing headlines as a copy team this month. Here is a long list of formulas to reference for helping you write effective headlines. They're taken from John Caples' book, Tested Advertising Methods. Bookmark this one, y'all.
5 Strategies to Reduce & Prevent Churn (via Klaviyo)
Why I recommend it: A common mistake I see brands make is putting too much effort into acquiring new customers as opposed to investing time into retaining existing ones. Why do I think that is? It takes a lot more effort. I know “it’s cheaper to keep a customer than get a new one.” Sure, it’s cheaper financially, but not in terms of effort. This is a great piece from Klaviyo on 5 strategies worth implementing to help reduce churn and retain customers.

Format: Email
Why I like it: Vibin’ with this big bold headline promoting the offer. The copy for the remainder of the email is dead simple and the GIF rotating through the sale offers is top-notch.
WARBY PARKER
Format: Email
Why I like it: Week after week, these guys keep impressing me with the simplicity of their emails. It goes to show how the less copy you use, the more attention you draw to your primary message.
OTHERLAND
Format: Email
Why I like it: “Candle gifts last longer than a bouquet.” Damn straight. Plus their subheadlines for what each of these candles can represent between two people is fantastic. A great play on candy hearts.
PEACOCK
Format: Email
Why I like it: Who said a streaming service couldn’t have good emails? I thought the subject line was clever (although I hate it when brands use “Re:” in subject lines). But the way they categorized different shows was entertaining to me (e.g. “Join someone else’s vacation”).
LAPHROAIG
Format: Email
Why I like it: Shamelessly, I like a good scotch. I signed up for Laphroaig’s email list and the way they personalized it was great. From the subject line to the little personalization on the sleeve in the image – cool stuff.
PARTNERS COFFEE
Format: Email
Spotted by: Alexa Rome, Junior Copywriter + Content Strategist, Homestead Studio
Why she likes it: I love this different play on Valentine’s Day. A lot of emails focus on love and romance, but singles often get left out. This email capitalizes on a dating app format that a lot of singles (and non singles!) familiar with, but twists it into describing the attributes of the single origin coffees instead of your next potential partner (love the play on words there as well)
