👋 Quick Announcement
ICYMI last week, I started a daily blog called – wait for it – The Daily Log.
It’s a personal newsletter designed without rules. You can subscribe below or click here to learn more. I’d love to have you along for the journey!
Copy Tip of the Week
Today’s copy tip comes from my old copywriting pal Lindsay Hope about how to stand out in inboxes during the BFCM craze:
The best way to stand out in the Black Friday inbox chaos is to be crystal clear and customer-centric.
Instead of over-complicating your Black Friday subject lines, keep it simple, direct, and value-focused.
Your readers know what’s coming: deals! Give them what they’re looking for.
Be quick and clear with subject lines like:
"Only 24 hours: 50% off sitewide!"
"Your Black Friday deal is inside"
"Buy more, save more — one day only!"
"Deals starting at $10, don’t miss out!"
"Last chance for 40% off everything!"No fluff, no extra hype — just your offer, the value, and a clear reason to open, click, and buy.
Must-Read Articles
How to Optimize Your Email Funnel (via Litmus)
Why I recommend it: The email marketing funnel supports subscribers through every stage of their journey, focusing on engagement, retention, and advocacy. Optimizing this funnel can help you build lasting relationships with your audience and improve overall marketing success. Whether your a strategist, copywriter, or brand owner – highly recommend this bad boy.
Everything you need to know about AI email inbox summaries (via Action Rocket)
Why I recommend it: AI is now summarizing emails, affecting how email marketing works. With new features from Apple and Google, you need to rethink your subject lines and preview texts. Using clear, text-based content will help AI create better summaries, while all-image emails may not be effectively summarized at all. Read more here.
This Writing Technique Turns Your Copy into a “Mind Movie” (via Eddie Schleyner)
Why I recommend it: How do you get your copy to evoke rich, vivid imagery in the minds of your readers? Eddie suggests putting holes in it. But he also suggests something else. Pull up a chair, grab a cup of coffee, and dive in here.
BRAIN DRIVEN BRANDS
AMA - Will the Election Change Buyer Behavior (feat. Bryant Jaquez)
⏰ 27 minutes
Why I recommend it: This was a timely podcast conversation shedding some light on consumer behavior during major election cycles. Does an election hurt or bolster brands? How does it impact consumer spending? Does the likely political victor affect brands’ revenue streams? How should (or should) brands pivot their approach to marketing during this time?
All in all, a worthwhile 27-minute listen.
Pretty Fly Copy
RARE BEAUTY
Format: Video
Why I like it: A brilliant script. In the words of Rare Beauty’s CMO, Katie Welch, “I think this spot tells that story also, that while it’s Selena’s company, it’s more than just her.” Read more here.
CALDERA + LAB
Format: Email
Why I like it: This is an example of email personalization at its finest. Caldera’s primary audience is men, and more than likely what they know about their key demographic, they could assume they were up late watching the World Series. This was a great time-based campaign that positions a flagship product of theirs as a solution to a very present problem their ideal customer is facing. I’d call it a home run?
BLACKSTONE
Format: Email
Why I like it: This was a fun little Halloween-themed email sent to (I’m assuming) previous purchasers. Why do I assume that? Because there’s nothing to buy in this email – only things you can make with their products. An easy, seasonal value-add? I’ll take it.
HINGE
Format: Static Ad
Why I like it: It’s only 11 words – 11 words that communicate a common desire [most] of us can relate to – a desire their product can help you fulfill. Not to mention, the whitespace really helps the message stand out. See more variations here.
