Copy Tip of the Week
What to do when you’re feeling stuck (selections taken from Hey Whipple, Squeeze This by Luke Sullivan):
"Start from where you are."
If you're stuck, relax.
Leave the office and work from somewhere else.
Change something. Anything.
Blow up everything. Start over.
Stay off the stinkin' computer.
“What does the ad want to say?”
Go to the store where they sell the stuff.
Go to a bookstore and study books on your subject.
Ask you creative director for help.
Get more product information.
It helps to work on several projects at once.
Don't burn up energy trying to force something to work.
Be patient.
Learn to enjoy the process, not just the finished work.
Remember, you aren't saving lives.
QUESTION OF THE WEEK
Must-Read Articles
Power Words: 150+ Words to Drive More Clicks and Conversions on Social Media (via Buffer App)
Why I recommend it: Power words grab attention and drive emotion. And while this article is written with social media posts in mind (hence, Buffer), these words and strategies can be utilized across emails, landing pages, paid ads, video scripts, and more. Bookmark this one!
40+ Amazing Email Popup Examples (and Why They Work) (via wisepops)
Why I recommend it: Want to grow your email list? Like it or not, popups are a fantastic way to do so. But your popup can also make or break your conversions. Pawel Lawrowski provides 40+ examples to add to your swipe file and even shares why they work.
13 Creative Email Segmentation Strategies and Ideas, with Examples (via Klaviyo)
Why I recommend it: Want to send the right message to the right person at the right time? That’s what segmentation helps you do. Our friends at Klaviyo whipped out 13 different ideas to help you connect with your target market while driving revenue at the same time. You should use one of these in next month’s email campaigns!
BRAIN DRIVEN BRANDS
The AIDA Framework is Why Your Ads Don’t Work
⏰ 20 minutes
Why I recommend it: Are you a fan of hot takes? Because this whole episode is certainly one. But to be fair, Sarah Levinger makes a compelling argument: AIDA is overused in video ads and needs to get a makeover. The alternative? Micro stories that are built around characters and character arcs.
Pretty Fly Copy
AG1
Format: Email
Why I like it: They don’t send emails often, but when they do, they’re well-thought-out. This campaign took a common customer complaint (”tastes like crap”) and showed readers how to solve said problem.
HATARI
Format: Video
Why I like it: Shout out to Cherene Aubert for sharing this on Twitter X. But it’s a great example of what Sarah Levinger shared in the podcast episode linked above – the use of micro stories.
KITKAT
Format: Ad
Why I like it: One of the best things a brand can do is identify how their products can intersect with unique cultural moments. KitKat’s quick thinking helping them seize on one with their core motto: taking a break.
CASE KNIVES
Format: Pinterest Ad
Why I like it: Great audience-specific headline and excellent hook: “Give your right hand men something to hold.”
