Copy Tip of the Week
Use the “Dear Son” framework (or daughter, mother, father, friend, etc.)
Begin by writing “Dear son,” at the top of your page. At the end of it write, “Love, dad.” Write your ad, email, landing page, etc. in the space between.
Not only will it encourage you to write to ONE PERSON, it’ll help you stay focused on writing a clear and compelling message too.
Give it a shot and let me know how it goes!
Must-Read Articles
Driving Engagement: A Complete Guide for Email Marketers (via Email on Acid)
Why I recommend it: Whether you’re fairly new to email marketing or you’re a veteran, this is a comprehensive article designed to help you better understand what the term “engagement” even means when it comes to what’s in your inbox. Want 6 simple steps to increase engagement? This article’s got ‘em.
The Pinterest 2024 Wedding Report (via Pinterest)
Why I recommend it: You might be thinking – Matt, why on earth would you share an article from PINTEREST about weddings??? Well, because it’s relevant. Maybe you strategize or write for a brand that’s wedding-centric or wedding-adjacent. This report shows you what’s popular and when – fueling your creative ideas. You’re welcome.
Using a Plural vs. Singular Brand Name (via Ariyh)
Why I recommend it: I understand you may not have creative license over your clients’ product names, but you do have agency as it relates to promoting them in ads, landing pages, emails, and the like. Turns out, using the ‘plural’ of said products has its perks…
Pretty Fly Copy
LIVING PROOF
Format: Email
Why I like it: Love the design of this email, in particular how there’s so much room for the copy to breathe. Good how-to format to feature how Living Proof’s products keep hair frizz-free.
MISSION
Format: Email
Why I like it: Value props, anyone? Yes, it’s a hideous-looking product, but the way they write about it is all about benefits, benefits, benefits. In particular, I like that the benefits are bolded so your eye’s drawn to them first.
WEEZY
Format: Billboard
Why I like it: Once again, this is proof you don’t need heaps of copy to get your point across. Pick a customer pain point and quickly share how your product (or service) addresses it. “Want Prosecco but don’t want to put pants on?” Classic.
BUC-EE’S
Format: Billboard
Why I like it: “Eat Here. Get Gas.” ← the two things you NEED on massively long road trips. This billboard would get your attention. Also, Buc-ee’s. IYKYK.
KIT KAT
Format: Billboard
Spotted By: Samantha Graham, Creative Operations Lead, Homestead Studio
Why she likes it: Great ad. Relatable.
NIKE
Format: Print Ad
Spotted By: Anthony Saif, Senior Creative Strategist, Homestead Studio
Why he likes it: Favorite print ad of all time. (And you know what? It is good! - Matt)

Also, I always wondered who was behind the genius billboards for Buc-ee’s. I remember one that was right outside of Dallas advertising that it was only 262 miles to the next Buc-ee’s and "You Can Hold It".
