Must-Read Articles
A Secret Persuasion Weapon… (via Charlene Burke)
Why I recommend it: In the world of sales and persuasion, “the power of hope” is a secret weapon that can be harnessed, especially in email copywriting. By tapping into people's desire for hope during challenging times, you (as a copywriter) can instill a sense of possibility and positivity in your readers. But this approach goes beyond just selling a product or service. So how do you do it? Check it out.
5 Steps to Improve Placed Order Rates (via Klaviyo)
Why I recommend it: The placed order rate is a crucial metric in marketing campaigns, reflecting the effectiveness of strategies and user experience. So what causes low rates and how can you improve them? Caleb Simpson has 5 tips for you.
[Podcast] How FourSigmatic Gets Aggressive on Amazon Ads (via DTC Podcast)
Why I recommend it: Nope, this isn’t an article and it’s not even directly related to copywriting – but it was a super insightful interview with Rick Cadotte! He shared some cool ways they're using aggressive marketing strategies to target customers at “top-of-funnel” – some angles that could inform your approach to crafting copy. A fun listen!
Pretty Fly Copy
PET FRIENDLY
Format: Email
Why I like it: At some point, every dog owner catches their pup licking its paws. So, already, the subject line grabbed my attention. Then once I opened the email, the headline further piqued my interest. While I didn’t click the CTA (boooorrriiinng), the initial body copy sparked my curiosity and kept me reading to the end. So what did I like about this? The format (and copy) took me on a journey and propelled me through the entire email.
ELF
Format: Email
Why I like it: The headline. I also like how they portrayed the product as an “emotional support lippie.” Reminded me of a few close friends in high school who hastily applied Carmex when they got anxious (a weird tick, I know). But the product recs were well-played too.
WARBY PARKER
Format: Email
Why I like it: The GIF = beautiful. A socially/culturally relevant moment where you can subtly make a nod to your product category = brilliant.
CASELY
Format: Email
Why I like it: Collab emails can be tricky, but this email team pulled it off well. First of all, what a cool hero section! Second, I liked this line: “Shop our NEW collab for looks that will keep you going from dusk til dawn on the festival grounds.” It’s festival season and they know their target market is ALL about them.
RUGGABLE
Format: Email
Why I like it: The strategy here is relevant for all customers (new and returning) and the copy reflects it. They take advantage of a seasonal change to encourage a change in your own home with “simple seasonal swaps.” I also like the gentle waving of the branches in the hero. Real cool.
THE ADVENTURE CHALLENGE
Format: Email
Spotted by: Bailey Baethge, Senior Copywriter & Content Strategist, Homestead
Why I like it: Simply put, I thought this was a delightful plain text.
